We all know that Willy Loman died an intentional death at the end of the play. However, did he do it just for the insurance money? Could it have been for any other reason? Did he just want to obey his brother? Obviously his mental state affected his choice, but what was his motive behind the suicide?

Willy Loman clearly felt he was a total failure at the end of the play. He could not overcome the devastating reality that he failed to achieve a stable life in the form of the American Dream by means of his work as a salesman. Through suicide, his hope was both to escape his unfulfilled life and somehow aid his family through the insurance money.
