The tyranny of consensus has been a major theme this first half of the year, and will probably appear on the midterm as well. We've discussed in depth the idea of a tyranny of consensus within The Crucible, but not so much with the Scarlet Letter.
I think that one tyranny of consensus definitely lies within the structure of the town. Everyone shuns Hester, because that's what they are supposed to do, even if they don't really believe she committed a great sin (as some of them are sinners as well).
Any other ideas?
