Noting the parallels and distinctions between American and German cinema from 1935-1945, and how major thematic and technical elements of the two inverted over time (the maudlin showy movies of the US and German Expressionistic films in the 30s to the more refined film noir of the US and overindulgent propaganda of Joseph Goebbels in Nazi Germany in the 40s).
Focusing on the films of the German director Fritz Lang and their impact on American cinema (both in the works of Lang's contemporaries and later directors).
An examination of Fritz Lang's films as they brought to light various underrepresented social concerns of the times.
